Parenting Classes
The HUB offers a variety of parent education classes throughout the year in
Dover, Rochester, Somersworth, Farmington and surrounding towns. These classes
have a specific start and end date and typically meet once a week for between
four to ten weeks. Classes are designed with a specific curriculum and some
offer free childcare.

Conscious Fathering™: "Baby Basics" for Dads
A three-hour class for new and expectant dads. This class addresses the five
essential needs of babies: feeding, burping, comforting, and being comfortable with your resting or crying baby.
Cooperative Parenting and Divorce
This program assists separating or divorcing parents in reducing parental
conflict and the risk factors that influence the child's adjustment. The
program is designed to improve the quality between separate households,
to improve the quality of the parental relationship in situations of
joint parenting, separate maintenance, change of parenting, and paternity.
Family Focus
Three separate programs focusing on these different curriculums:
• Parenting the Young Child
• Parenting the School Age Child
• Parenting the Adolescent
Great Beginnings Parent Education Class
This is a nutrition education program designed especially for pregnant and young parents.
Participation in this series gives each new or expectant mom the opportunity to realize the
important role she plays in shaping her health and the health of her baby. Developed by the
UNH Cooperative Extension, this series consists of presentations, discussions, food
activities, and hands-on activities. This series has two major components: Nutrition
Issues during pregnancy, and Nutrition and the Young Family.
Just Like Me!
A program for pre-teen girls and their parents. This class addresses, among other
topics, self-esteem, confidence building and peer pressure among young women in our
society today.
Nurturing Families in Recovery
This curriculum focuses on the effects of substance abuse on families, parenting,
and the parent-child relationship. Nurturing Families was developed for parents who
have experienced substance abuse, mental illness and trauma. It specifically addresses
the impact of these experiences on parents and children, with the primary focus on
skill building, and coping strategies to support parents in recovery.
Participation in this parenting program can be the beginning of restoring what has been
lost in the parent-child relationship, as well as time for parents to re-establish the
strength of their connections to their children, so that parents and children can heal together.
Nurturing Fathers
For dads who want to cultivate and support the attitudes and skills for male
nurturance - to benefit men, children and family relationships.
Parenting during Difficult Circumstances
This class addresses some of the stressors for individuals parenting under
challenging circumstances, such as parenting issues, separation, and divorce.
Also includes parenting styles, child development, positive discipline, and
effective communication.
Parenting piece by piece
This parenting class will provide educational and social experiences that
increase the use of positive parenting practices which create an environment
that facilitates the development of caring, competent and healthy children.
Parents of Teens
A program exploring the challenges parents of teens face today. Topics include
risky behaviors, communication strategies, and Internet safety.
Parenting and the Blended Family
A class designed to give blended families strategies for communication,
problem solving, discipline, understanding new roles, rules and acceptance
among step-parents, step-children and step-siblings.
Strengthening Families
A class for families and children age 10-14 years old. This class offers
families an opportunity to come together to explore topics such as child
development, discipline, communication patterns, and family rituals. Parent
and children curriculums offered.
You Make the Difference
You Make the Difference is a parent-child interactive program developed by
the Hanen Centre for mothers, fathers, and their young children ages 0-5.
Discover how to use everyday routines and activities to help your child
learn language and develop social skills, feel good about themselves, and
get their learning off to a good start.
